What is Humanities?

Humanities is a one semester course for eighth grade students that   explores various aspects of the fine arts from 3000 B.C. to today.  Students will study visual, and musical arts.  Primary focus is given to those masters who have become known as the great artists, composers, and authors, withstanding the test of time.  These master artists are known as legends in their fields.  Course topics are organized by visual arts and musical arts.  The key to success in this course is to have an open mind to experiencing the arts.  Much of what we will do is in class, so attendance is very important.

What will students do?

Students will spend time listening to music and looking at art.  Students are asked to evaluate and critique what they experience.  Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the lives of the master artists, how their experience influenced their creations, and how the artists affected history and art development of the period.  Students will also have the opportunity to experience creating art and music.

Expectations & Grading

Many of our classroom assignments will be completed within small groups.  It is important that students treat each other with respect at all times.  Standard district discipline policies will be followed.
Most of our projects will be evaluated using a rubric and will be completed during class.  If a student is not able to complete the work in class, the assignment is due the following class period.
Students are responsible for efficient use of their classroom time.

If a student is absent, he/she needs to communicate with Miss Klungseth following the absence; an alterative assignment may be given.
